VERBO-VISUAL ARGUMENTATION IN LEGAL GENRES: A RHETORICAL-DISCURSIVE ANALYSIS PROPOSAL
Abstract
This research aims to study the use of verbal-visual argumentation in legal genres. Based on corpus method and on studies and categories from Rhetoric, Social Semiotics, Social Linguistics and Discourse Analysis, we analyze the verbal-visual rhetorical argumentation in filing bankruptcy in the context of reorganization of a corporation. As a result, the use of selected theories and categories allowed concluding the rhetorical-argumentative use of images – mainly images of toys and graphics - for the construction of ethos (of the company) and pathos (of the judge).
